Representing injured people
and their families for over 40 years

For almost 20 years that I am aware of, I have heard tales of bizarre lawsuits which stand for the proposition that there are frivolous lawsuits regularly being filed all over the country. It's not true. But what chance does a lawyer have of convincing anyone when everyone has heard the outlandish and bizarre cases reported by some media and which appear continually on the internet. The reports of these bizarre lawsuits are not just for fun. They are intentionally fabricated lies designed to poison people's views and attitudes toward lawyers and the judicial system itself. The most outlandish of these cases is frequently found on Stella's list. The lady in the McDonald's case was named Stella Liebeck. On the internet a lawyer purports to report the ten most recent and outrageous frivolous lawsuits and calls it Stella's list. The problem is that none of them are true, but they have had the effect that they were designed to accomplish. They have "poisoned the well" resulting in people both being absolutely convinced that there are widespread frivolous lawsuits and that juries are returning verdicts that are insane.

In 2003 there was a thoroughly researched analysis of these fabricated lawsuit stories and an equally thorough analysis of what juries have really been doing day in and day out throughout the country. I have provided the cite for the Harvard Law Review article entitled "Truth, Justice, and the Jury." I trust you will find the article interesting, if not shocking, and will at least in some small way dispel these rumors and lies which are ultimately designed to interfere with the proper administration of justice in our judicial system.
